JOB DESCRIPTION
MUSIC/WORSHIP MINISTER
FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH of IDABEL, OKLAHOMA
 
PRINICIPAL FUNCTION: The Minister of Music/Worship will be responsible to the Pastor and Personnel Committee, and has the responsibility for planning, conducting, and evaluating a comprehensive ministry of music and worship in the church.
 
QUALIFICATIONS: The Minister of Music/Worship must be a man who spends quality time in prayer and bible study for his own personal growth. He must have received appropriate music training or possess an equivalent level of experience. The Minister of Music/Worship must hold to Baptist doctrine as expressed in the Baptist Faith and Message, and be totally committed to the church’s position as stated in its Constitution and Bylaws. 
 
GENERAL DUTIES: General duties shall include but not limited to:
 
  1. Direct the planning, coordination, operation, and evaluation of a comprehensive music program for the church.
  2. Assist the Pastor in planning congregation services: be responsible for previewing and selecting the music to be played or sung during church services.
  3. Coordinate the enlistment and training of individuals to present solos or to form singing groups (duets, trios, quartets, ensembles, etc.) or instrumental groups to enhance the worship services of the church.
  4. Coordinate the performance schedule of music groups and individuals in the total life of the church.
  5. Be responsible for enlisting trained leaders for the church music program, graded choirs, and instrumentalists in cooperation with the church’s Nominating Committee.
  6. Coordinate the church music program with the church calendar and special emphases of the church.
  7. Provide assistance and counsel when needed or requested for special events such as weddings, funerals, and banquets.
  8. Work with the Church Music Committee to prepare and administer an annual music budget. When administering the music budget, provide full accountability.
  9. Supervise the maintenance of an up-to-date inventory of sound and music equipment.
  10. Work as part of the total church staff team in visitation, evangelism, and care of the church membership.
  11. Assist in the planning, coordination, operation, and evaluation of the educational program for the church.
  12. Assist in the ordering and distribution of all literature in a timely manner and seeing that proper Southern Baptist literature order forms are utilized.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned by the Pastor.
 
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS
  1. The Minister of Music/Worship will be allowed to conduct two one week (one Sunday each) revivals away per year.
  2. The Minister of Music/Worship may attend two conventions or training seminars per year. Any additional time away must be approved by the pastor or personnel committee.
 
HOLIDAYS: The Minister of Music/Worship may have paid time off for the following holidays each year: New Year’s Day, Easter (Friday or Monday), Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day. If a holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday may be taken.   In addition, the Minister of Music/Worship may take Saturday and one other day off per week, except for emergencies and special occasions.
 
VACATION and SICK LEAVE: One week of paid vacation (one Sunday) will be allowed after six months of service. Two weeks (one Sunday each) will be allowed for one to five years of service, three weeks (one Sunday each) for six to ten years of service, and four weeks (one Sunday each) for eleven or more years of service. One week sick leave will be granted after one year of employment. Two weeks of sick leave for actual sickness after two years of service. Vacation and sick leave time must be taken in the current calendar year will not be accumulative. Payment for extended illness will rest at the discretion of the pastor and personnel committee.
 
GRIEVANCE: Any problem with the working conditions, salary, or duties should be discussed with the pastor. If the problem cannot be resolved, it will then be brought to the attention of the personnel committee.
