Humble II

Humble II

Jesus Christ’s life provides the best example of what it means to have humility (Matt. 11:29). Jesus preached and taught often about the need for humility (Matt. 23:12; Mark 9:35; Luke 18:14). He urged those who desired to live by Kingdom standards to practice humility. While God resists those who are proud, He provides grace for the humble (Jas. 4:6).  The New Testament affirms, as does the Old Testament, that God will exalt those who are humble and bring low those who are proud (Jas 4:10). The Greek world abhorred the quality of meekness or humility, but the Christian community believed these qualities were worthy (Col. 3:12;)

Why is humility an important part of our spiritual life?

    1. Humility is the proper attitude before God.
    2. Humility keeps us from depending on our own strengths
    3. Humility makes our prayers direct and honest.
    4. Humility challenges our pride.
    5. Humility is a deep awareness of unworthiness, not worthlessness.
    6. Humility increases our appreciation for God.
    7. Humility is essential for service to others.
    8. Jesus Christ is our model for humility.
