Do Over

Can you remember as a child playing games, and if you did not win you wanted a “do over”. Some might be asking now what exactly is a do over? A do over is when something did not go the way you expected and so you wanted to do it over again. There have been many things in my life that I would like to go back and do over. I know looking back now that many of the things that I would do over, I would actually do them different.

I need to share my testimony with you. I did not grow up in church; we would go every now and then, but never regularly. I started drinking when I was in the ninth grade, what started out as fun ended up becoming habit forming. My senior year I was dating a girl who was going to church. I thought it would be a good idea to go also. One day I was over at her parents’ house and they were talking to me about the Lord. Their Pastor came over presented the Gospel to me and I prayed to receive Christ, two weeks later I was baptized.

That sounds well and all, but there is a problem though. I said a prayer alright but it was only with my head and not my heart. What I mean is there was head knowledge of Jesus, but He was not in my heart. When people would talk to me about the Lord I would tell them I was “saved”. The sad thing is if I were to have died I would have went straight to hell.

Now back to do overs, on December 16, 2001 I was setting in a pew at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Brother Aaron Meraz was preaching and the whole time I felt as if he was preaching right to me. When invitation finally came I headed down to talk to him. I told him what all had taken place when I was seventeen, what I had done. He told me that many people have done that and then presented the Gospel to me. I repented of my sin and by faith through grace I was saved. No longer a head knowledge, but a deep seated heart for Jesus. Two weeks later I was baptized. The Lord called me to preach on April 14, 2002 and I have had the privilege of getting to preach ever since then.

Scriptures for Application

Acts 9:1-22 As you read this passage notice how Paul was granted a do over by Jesus. Pay close attention to verses 5, 15, 20, 22

Galatians 2:20 Are you living this verse?

Action: Do you know for certain that Jesus is your Savior and Lord? If you are not for certain, I urge you right now to ask Jesus for forgiveness and salvation. If you are a Christian and it seems as if your walk is weak, and that you need a do over. Then you could tell God how bad you have blown it and ask for forgiveness and ask for Him to take complete control of your life. And then by faith live for Him completely.
