DO NOT REMOVE THIS TAG UNDER PENALTY OF LAW! Remember that tag on the mattress with this terrifying threat? I remember when I was a kid we use to dare each other to rip that tag off, then whenever someone was about to do it we would threaten to call the police. It was all in fun. We knew that we were not going to get into any real trouble for tearing off a mattress tag. I’d like to think we did anyway. I wasn’t always the brightest crayon in the box. The powers that be recently revamped this tag placed on mattresses to be a little more explanatory adding the statement, “EXCEPT BY THE CONSUMER.” WHEW! I’m so relieved. Now I can come out of hiding and admit to the fact that, yes I did succumb to the pressure and tore a few of those tags off in my younger days. It’s OK. I’m a consumer. The tags are there to identify the contents of the mattress and are a precaution against selling used or recycled mattresses that may contain bed bugs, lice or other unpleasant things. So don’t buy a mattress that does not have this tag attached.
It’s kind of funny how everything has a tag on it these days. Take clothing for instance. You can look at an item and see where it was made, what size it is, what it is made out of and how to take care of it. You can tear the tag off if you want to, but you might want to leave it in place for the instructions because we so easily forget. Are we supposed to wash it in cold water or warm? Do we wash it by itself or with like colors? To tumble dry or not to tumble dry? Without the tag, sometimes we may find ourselves a little lost… Huh-oh, there’s a preacher term! I’ll bet you were wondering where I was going with this… There is a tag on everything. This tag you cannot see, but it is there. It is the tag that marks everything in the universe from the smallest atom to the greatest star in the galaxies.
John 1:1-3 1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning. 3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
This scripture is talking about our eternal Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. That’s the invisible tag I was telling you about. I wonder what this tag might reveal if we were able to read it. What would your tag say? Maybe something like this, “Created in the beginning by the Lord for good works. Keep away from darkness and constantly expose to the light. Repent and repeat repentance daily to cleanse from all unrighteousness. To extend the life of this product for eternity, believe in Jesus with all of your heart and live your life with complete trust and faith in Him.” DO NOT REMOVE THIS TAG!
