Mission Minded
John 6:5-6 When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, "Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?" He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.
The idea of putting together In Home Care Kits is beginning to be introduced to several of our Sunday school classes and our youth group. Last year's In-Home Care Kit Project ended successfully with 3,200 kits sent to South Africa, Zambia, Kenya, Uganda, Botswana, Lesotho and Mozambique. This year, Baptist Global Response has set a goal is to provide 5,000 kits to help 5,000 families in need. 5000 kits seems like a small number when you consider the overwhelming need. There are over 25 million people in the African regions served by BGR living with HIV/AIDS. The BGR website also states that if no cure is found, most of these 25 million will be dead within the next 10 years.
As I think about the seemingly impossible mission to serve the sick and dying of Africa, I want to ask the question, “How far can 5000 care kits really go among 25 million who are suffering?” The numbers are staggering, but there is hope. All things are possible with God. Just look at John 6:5-6; Jesus knew the need of the great crowd of 5000 or more and He knew how He was going to meet those needs- 5 small barley loaves and 2 small fish. Andrew spoke up and questioned, “but how far will they go among so many?" Sound familiar? God has not changed. His compassion for these people in Africa is great. This ‘In Home Care Kit’ campaign is our opportunity to hand this small offering to Jesus and see what He does with it.
Weekly Challenge: The challenge this week, and the weeks to come, is to be mission minded. If you haven’t heard about the campaign yet and would like to donate, call the office and get the information. Brother Chris Thorman has the list of supplies that are needed. The list is very specific as only certain packages and products may be sent. Designated monetary gifts will be accepted as well. Faithfully pray that the physical and spiritual needs of those who are suffering are met.
