Children of God

As I was reading in Isaiah chapter 53 this morning, I came across verse 10.

Yet it was the LORD’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the LORD makes his life a guilt offering, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand.

I pondered and was reminded of a recent novel written by Dan Brown.  I’m sure you recall “The Da Vinci Code”; a work of fiction that does a fair job of steering those who may be weak in the faith into utter heresy.  The fictional book was basically about secrets that have been kept over the millennia about the ‘true nature’ of Jesus.  That Jesus was an ordinary man like you and me.  Not only that but that also Jesus had been married, secretly of course, and had children.  This provided that there was an actual family line of Jesus and it had been being protected, all in secrecy of course, by the Knights Templar and yada, yada, yada.

Did you know this book has been translated into 44 languages! Kind of scary isn’t it?  People with little or no faith will latch on to any kind of false teaching.  We, as the children of God must stand for the Truth.  That Truth is only found in God’s word, The Bible.

Speaking of being the children of God, let me get back to the scripture, ‘he will see his offspring and prolong his days.’  Is Isaiah prophesying that the Lord would have children?  As I read on in Isaiah, I came to chapter 54:1 "Sing, O barren woman, you who never bore a child; burst into song, shout for joy, you who were never in labour; because more are the children of the desolate woman than of her who has a husband," says the LORD.  And then chapter 54:5 For your Maker is your husband—the LORD Almighty is his name—the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he is called the God of all the earth.

Israel is the barren woman.  Remember God’s promise to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob?  God promised that through them all nations would be blessed and their descendants would be as many as the sands of the seashore.  Jesus Christ, the Messiah whom Isaiah is prophesying of is the blessing!  This concerns not natural childbirth, but spiritual re-birth!  Colossians 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.

You don’t have to look anywhere else for answers to questions that you have!  The Bible answers for itself.  The more I read, the more I realize how alive and how complete the scriptures really are.  It’s nothing short of amazing.
